Postcards From Juilliard Alums

After graduating, I was named the director of jazz studies at the Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan, and I’m now  starting my third year. 在这个角色中, I direct the curriculum for our academy jazz majors, summer camp and intensive students, and Interlochen online group courses and private lessons. 在学院, we just celebrated the inaugural season of our new Interlochen Jazz Orchestra with performances with visiting artists Billy Childs, 帕特里斯Rushen, 奥林埃文斯, 安东尼Tidd, 三月桂酸甘油酯Talese, 和更多的. Interlochen is a magical place with deep history set in a beautiful landscape. I’m truly enjoying myself.

I’ve also continued my work with Posi-Tone Records on three new albums of my compositions: 打电话的时间 released last year, 这 this year, and a work in progress to be recorded soon. Our team is building a new tour circuit in support of the albums and my work at Interlochen to reach new listeners and students of the music. 3月, we were onstage at Dizzy’s Club in New York with students from Interlochen, Harlem School for the Arts, and the Afro Latin Jazz Alliance for a collaborative performance in partnership with the New York Philharmonic and 林肯中心.

As I’m ending my 40th year and Interlochen approaches its centennial, it’s an inspiring time for me as a teaching artist and a human. I’m truly grateful for my family and friends, our new home, and the music which drives everything. Take care of the music and it will take care of you!
